About Us
Maremel Institute for Social Transformation through Technology, a for-profit institute, was launched by Maremel Media, LLC, in 2009. Maremel Institute brings together all of Maremel Media's efforts in organizational advisory and design as well as digital media education programs. Efforts also include new research and online content programs that are in pilot testing and development by the Institute.
Maremel Media was founded in 2001 by Gigi and Brian Johnson to help companies and other organizations solve strategic problems. Initially, the company worked with regional firms to help them through major transitions, including restructurings, new systems, expanded distribution, and new technology systems. Maremel also launched educational programs, both with traditional higher education institutions -- including our long-time relationship with the UCLA Anderson School of Managment -- as well as with community groups. Maremel continues its work from this time with companies and organizations to expose executives and professional masters students on transformative concepts to become change agents in their worlds -- and what their worlds could look like in the not-too-distant future. Maremel also expanded its consulting roles for companies -- how can companies transform themselves given the changes in their outside environments and what changes they would like to seek in the world. The Institute has continued this role as well: helping management teams decide who the best companies are with which to partner to achieve new markets, new products, and new entire businesses.
Maremel Institute is expanding significantly in its focus on community education programs to teach digital media literacy. It has expanded its efforts to include not just families, its traditional area of interest that has included several video series, but also in working with older adults and social organizations. That is the Institute's primary area of expansion in terms of research, programs, partnerships, and advocacy. The organization has been expanding its programs to teach adults, community groups, and families how to best use technology for enhanced and enriched lives.
