About Us

Gigi L. Johnson
President

Ms. Johnson, president of Maremel, consults, teaches, and creates new ventures in the changing spaces where digital media and culture connect. 

Leading Maremel since 2001, Ms. Johnson has consulted for large and small media, technology, and educational organizations trying to figure out their next strategic shifts – and the shifts in the various parties and forces around them.  Ms. Johnson continues her development work on video and live programming for families on digital media literacy, and through the subsidiary Maremel Music produces recordings and traditional live music concerts for families.

Ms. Johnson also continues to teach graduate and executive programs at UCLA Anderson School and other institutions about transforming business models in media and communication.   Until late 2005, she was Executive Director of the Entertainment and Media Management Institute at UCLA Anderson School of Management. She joined UCLA Anderson in 1999 as Director of its renowned Applied Management Research/Field Study Program, and in helped launch UCLA Anderson's Center for Management in the Information Economy as its acting Associate Director.

During 2007 and early 2008, Ms. Johnson was Senior Vice President, General Manager/Kids & Learning for Studio 4 Networks.  For two of its cable/satellite video-on-demand channels, she negotiated children's and teens' educational video programming relationships, designed and supervised the beta launch of their high school educational broadband video site, and coordinated deployment of new cross-platform ad products.

Ms. Johnson had been Managing Director/Senior Client Manager at Bank of America, where she spent most of a decade in their Entertainment/Media Corporate Banking practice in Los Angeles and New York. Before banking, she worked for leading advertising and public relations firms, as well as in television finance.

Ms. Johnson has been on the management board of the Interactive TV Alliance for four years and is a member of the Interactive Peer Group of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. She also is on the advisory board of SpinSpotter and advises senior management and boards at several other digital media companies.

Ms. Johnson received her MBA in finance and accounting from UCLA Anderson School and her BA in Cinema-Television Production from the University of Southern California.  She recently began studies for her Ed.D. in Educational Leadership and Change from Fielding Graduate University.
